Newborn FAQs

When do Newborn Photos take place?

Sessions are typically done in the first 2 weeks after baby arrives, of course if you are just not feeling right we can push out a week or two, it’s more important you feel up for it!

Where do sessions take place?

I have a natural light studio in the Platt Park area or happy to come to your home, depending on your preference! — Check out my studio + in-home newborn galleries to give you a sense of the different images.

How long do we have together?

Newborn sessions are the exception, I do block 2-3 hours for them, since we are on baby time, no worries I am here for you.  If baby needs to nurse, change or cuddle I’m there to be patient and probably snag a few shots of you in your element.  The easiest way to ensure a sleepy baby is the willingness to nurse/bottlefeed off and on.

I highly suggest having the pacifier the hospital sends you home with. Even if you haven’t used one, it really helps just for the two hours of the session. However if you really prefer we don’t use one, that is fine as well.

What should I bring?

I have plenty of wraps, and blankets, but if there is something really special you’d like to include feel free to bring it along.

So, I have a toddler…need I explain more?

Nope, enough said, If siblings will be joining {specifically younger ones}, I have toys, water {and lots and lots of coffee for you} and snacks! I advise siblings and your partner come for the beginning of the session, we will do all family photos and then they can head out.

How should I prepare the morning of our session?

Before the shoot, please feed baby 2-3 hours prior and plan on feeding baby as soon as you get to the studio or right before I arrive to your home!  Try to keep baby up all morning so they are super sleepy for our session.  I know you want those cute squishy, sweet, sleepy images, this will help! I cannot stress this enough! If we are in the studio I do keep the space quite warm, due to this I come dressed for a warm few hours and suggest you do too!  If we are at your home, I suggest turning off fans and warming up a tad to keep baby comfortable.

What if I don’t want to shoot in my home?

Not a problem, I have created a natural light studio just for you, looking for bright light, white walls a cozy bed and a different feel from home.

Can me and my partner be in photos?

I LOVE parents in photos, you are a huge part of all of this, photographing the connection you have with your little one is incredibly beautiful and so meaningful to your little one when they are grown.

What should we wear?

Mom, I suggest you wear loose fitting tops or dresses, neutral in design and colors, light or no nail polish, since your hands are in a lot of images.  Also, rest assured, I am going to photograph your most flattering angles and light to bring out the natural beauty in your family.

Dads, I suggest a v-neck or scoop neck, light gray, or cream; the simplicity looks great with baby’s skin tone.

With siblings I will always do my best to get photos of all kids together, it may take some time and warming up.  I remain very patience and calm and ask that you do as well.   I suggest keep them in a plain and simple outfit, free of logos and cartoons.  Steer clear of bright pinks and other colors that might be distracting.

One last thing Most Importantly

It is my hope that you come to the studio feeling comfortable and at home.  I am truly honored to be able to document this incredible time in your lives and look forward to getting to know you and your sweet baby!
